Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace built on a rugged hill overlooking the village of Hohenschwangau in southwest Bavaria, Germany. Commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a personal retreat and tribute to Richard Wagner, the castle was constructed using private funds and extensive borrowing, rather than public dollars. The king's intention was for Neuschwanstein Castle to be his primary residence, but he passed away in 1886 without ever occupying it. Following his death, the palace opened its doors to the public, attracting millions of visitors over the years. To date, more than 61 million people have explored the castle's grand halls and chambers. Each year, approximately 1.3 million individuals visit Neuschwanstein Castle, with peak tourist season drawing up to 6,000 daily visitors in the summer months.
