neumann, walking
sketchfab
I've done a regular old walk cycle for practice and decided to upload it now. The rig is pretty good, with some simple facial controls and eye targets that work quite well. I also have a nice foot setup with toe/ball roll controls that help make the animation look more realistic. One thing that doesn't work when uploading to Sketchfab is the IK/FK switch on the arms - it's due to blender drivers not working properly, so I had to dissolve it into normal keyframes instead. Originally, this was supposed to be a walk and run cycle, but uploading multiple animations to Sketchfab can be a bit of a hassle right now. Maybe later, when things improve, I'll try again. This is one of a series of characters that I made from scratch, from design to modeling to rigging and animation as a learning experience - it was a lot of fun to make and had some interesting challenges along the way. One thing that was particularly tricky was modeling teeth, but it turned out okay in the end. I've come up with some useless headcanon about one of my characters, Neumann: he's a soft-spoken pacifist who comes from a militarian family - this makes for an interesting contrast. Despite his upbringing, he still holds onto some ideals that were instilled in him as valuable. Currently, he's working as a diplomat and communications officer, trying to use his skills to make a difference. He's also trying to stop smoking, but isn't sure if the lollypop thing is really helping.
