Network Plate Cover Cage
thingiverse
I crafted this part to prevent furniture from being rammed into network ports at the schools I serve, ensuring smooth operations. It's designed to fit the type of plates we use, with the flat backed version capable of attaching on top of most any wall plate that uses screws in the standard location, just like a light switch would. I suggest printing this part with 4 or more shells for optimal results; I chose 6 myself. The non-flat versions have an inset for this type of wallplate, where the paper insert can be placed for labelling (this is where the screws are located, so it needs to be removed anyway). This means these parts will require supports for the outer edge as they'll otherwise be floating in air; alternatively, print them on their side without supports. The flat versions work well with other types of plates too, although they don't fit as snugly and rely on screws to hold tight to the plate. They can be printed on their back or side without supports. There are also two taller versions available for taller cords or more space to run cables.
