Nesting ergo tamping stand for Pavoni & other 48mm portafilters

thingiverse

An ergonomic tamping stand for use with 48mm portafilters from Pavoni and other brands is designed to improve comfort during use. The stand features a gentle forward tilt towards the user to enhance ergonomics and reduce strain on the upper body. A rim along the front of the stand captures loose grounds, which can be easily swept out through the back. An added feature when not in use allows the dosing funnel to nest on top of the stand via subtly matching contours, also nesting with a distribution tool. Many tamping stands appear excessively overbuilt, but this design incorporates strategically located carveouts to reduce material while maintaining rigidity. The four carveouts not only allow for extra room around protruding portafilter spouts but also provide added visibility during use. A rim around the front of the stand contains any spilled grounds, which can be swept out through the rear. Note that the front lip is minimal and does not bear the weight of the tamp, but instead supports the static weight of the portafilter and its handle. During tamping, direct force perpendicular to the portafilter's surface, directing it slightly backwards in line with the forward tilt of the stand. This is how this tamping stand is intended to be used. Despite being accustomed to applying significant tamping force, no give or flexure can be felt when using this stand. It was printed in PETG with 3.3 shells and a 27% infill. Results may vary depending on individual printing settings and materials used.
