Nested Spheres with Ball
thingiverse
This model boasts an inner sphere spinning freely on its axis alongside a bouncing ball (watch the video provided in the downloads). Initially conceived as four toruses for each sphere within GroBoto, the design was subsequently twisted and assembled in Cheetah3D. To achieve optimal results, ensure sufficient clearance between the interior-facing points of the outer sphere and the inner sphere's cups. Be mindful of removing all support structure, particularly at pivot points, as this model necessitates thorough cleanup - the demonstrated example measures about 42 mm in diameter and required several hours to clean. A previous version, 63 mm in diameter, was printed prior to adding points for enhanced spinning functionality. Printing was accomplished using ReplicatorG with 0.27 mm layers on a Replicator2 in white PLA. Future iterations may involve thinner layers or increased scale. Due to the file size (almost 200 MB), consider downloading the OBJ file and converting it instead of the STL.
