I've been putting off installing my Nest Gen 3 because my original heating control box fit perfectly into a single gang socket. However, the new nest is slightly larger, so I didn't want to have to start drilling holes immediately. To solve this problem, I came up with a solution. To create a custom mounting bracket for your Nest Gen 3, you'll need two socket screws that are likely lying around from your old control unit. I used two M3 screws measuring 26mm in length and nyloc nuts, which are embedded in the print to make them secure. First, press the nyloc nuts into place, then attach the mounting plate to the wall using one of the M3 screws. Finally, fix the Nest Gen 3 box to the bracket with the remaining M3 screw - it's a straightforward process! I printed my custom bracket without any support material and used 70% infill to make it strong. The print was made from PLA, which should withstand temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius in the UK climate.
