Nest For Swallows

A Swallow Nest that I First Designed Last Year for Returning Birds Each Year After We Found Chicks Had Fallen Out of Some of the Nests. After the first version worked perfectly last year, I've made a few improvements, and here's the updated version! Around this time of year (spring) is the perfect time to put these up if you notice swallows around your area - take note: * The nest must be out of reach of any animals such as house cats that would steal the chicks. Keep in mind that if the nest is successful, the chicks usually return to the nest where they were born the following year. * The nest should be under some kind of ledge or cover from the weather! I have mine in our stables; they love to nest in the rafters of outbuildings and such. * Once in place, put a little straw or grass into the nest. I found that this encourages them a little more - plus you're saving them some time! Can't hurt, can it? * Do not disturb already nested swallows while putting up your own. Be careful to make sure you're not too close to a nest that's already in use if the swallows have already arrived for the year. However, if you put it up early before they arrive, next to an old nest can be a good place; it can encourage them to move house. I hope you enjoy your nests! Please be kind and post your makes; I'd love to see if anyone uses these like I have!
