All the credits for the design goes to EhisforAdam (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:106148).

Since the old birdhouse was falling apart I needed a new one. Luckily there are plenty birdhouses on Thingiverse due to a challenge from 2013, but the one I liked most was printable but impossible to clean from necessary supports. So i made a remix of it and split it in two parts.

I added a possibility to screw it together and a few "predrilled" holes for drainage and slot for second screw in the bottom part. Cut/drill them out if you need them.

Cause i don't know what type of screw will be used, the four screw-holes between the two parts are 2 mm in diameter. Drill them slowly and carefully out in the desired diameter. Needed length for the four screws is 20 mm.

The original is a little too big so I scaled it to 75% (now LxWxH = 15x12.5x15.5). You can scale it a little more down if you want.

Since it is in two parts you can print it easily in two colors for an even more retro-look.

I printed both parts on their backs (as in the stl's). As a result, all supports fall inside the parts, making the exterior cleaner. It is also possible to change the color of the letters by changing the filament (layer 405 by resolution of 0.3 / Z 121.8).

Make sure the touching edges of the two parts are clean of any residue and they will fit together nice and tight.

Happy birdhousing :)

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

TEVO

Printer:

Tornado

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.3

Infill:

25% but 10% must be no problem

Filament: Real/PM PLA

Notes:

These are serious prints of 9-12 hour each and you need a lot of support.
I used 3 walls/perimeters and 3 top-/bottom layers. That will create an isolating space (cavity) in the actual walls of the birdhouse. Lesser infill then the 25% I used is therefore probably better.
Total weight is 330 g without supports (and with my slicer 500 g with support).

You can use a resolution of 0.2 for a smoother surface.

Category: Outdoor & Garden
