Nerf Hammershot - Uncompensated

The Nerf Hammershot is an excellent gun for modification, with many talented artists creating striking designs that showcase its sleek lines. One particular mod that I find fascinating is when the lower "compensator" is removed, giving the gun a more streamlined appearance while still allowing it to fire darts. This mod allows you to replace the foresight with a piece that drops around and takes the place of the front-attachment point for the cylinder, enabling you to achieve that svelte look without sacrificing functionality. I may develop an updated version to support the impressive mega-dart mod: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2848752 # Steps ## Printing See the print section below for details on printing the mods. For a standard Hammershot, you will need both the spacer and the front-end mod. Depending on how much of the lower portion of the gun you remove, you might also require the blank_fill piece. ## Assembly 1. Remove the clamshells by unscrewing them. 2. Take out the cylinder assembly and the U-clip that holds it in place at the rear. 3. Carefully pull out the hammer-trigger-piston assembly; it should come out in one piece. 4. Separate the cylinder assembly into its individual parts, which are all pressure/friction fit together. Soaking the assembly in warm water for a few minutes might make this process easier. You should end up with the metal rod that runs along the entire assembly, a trapezoidal bushing that holds the front of the cylinder secure, a cylindrical spacer, the cylinder itself, a spring, a crown 'gear', and the final piece that meshes with the previous one to provide the ratcheting motion for rotating the barrel. 5. The front-end mod piece and the spacer replace the trapezoidal bushing and the original spacer, respectively. 6. Reassemble the cylinder assembly using the replacement parts: a. Slide the rod through the front-end mod; the 'head' of the rod nestles into the recess of the front-end mod piece. b. Slide on the spacer; it should catch on the knurling. Do not make this too tight or the cylinder will not rotate. If you want to add a little lubricant at this point, it's not a bad idea; I used graphite. Any plastic-safe lubricant will work. c. Slide on the cylinder. d. Then the spring. e. Then the crown gear. f. Press fit the final piece that meshes into the crown gear. Again, do not make this too tight or the cylinder won't spin. 7. Now for the first irreversible destructive step: Cut away the lower support from the gun. You can cut it back as much as you want. If you want to match my exact steps, look at my pictures to see how much to cut; I used a Dremel to remove most of the material and then a file to get the areas flush. 8. If you cut away as much as I did, the blank_fill.stl piece should fit in the hole you've just made—you might need to scale it up or down a bit. The size of the hole will depend on how much you cut away, obviously. I hope this piece works for you; it was actually the most challenging to model and get right. 9. You should be good to reassemble now! 10. Put the hammer-trigger-piston assembly back in. 11. Lay the cylinder back in place, including the U-clip for the rear attachment point. 12. The front-end mod goes where the old fore-sight piece went; remove the original fore sight piece and rotate the mod piece into position; it should be a snug fit. 13. That's it! Replace the clamshell and put the screws back in; make sure it fires; it might catch the first few times so help it along. # Other Mods Other mods I used for this gun are: - Replacement Hammer: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2793436 - Replacement Trigger: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3090150 Both required a little work after printing to get them working correctly; the hammer needed metal reinforcement, and the trigger had to be filed to fit the gun.
