The Nereid Monument stands proudly in ancient Xanthos, a city within the once-mighty Achaemenid Persian Empire, now situated near modern-day Fethiye in Turkey's Mugla Province. Built atop a solid base adorned with intricately carved friezes, this majestic structure takes the form of an authentic Greek temple. Historians estimate its construction occurred around 390 BC, when it was likely erected as a grand tomb for Arbinas, the powerful ruler who controlled western Lycia under Achaemenid rule.
