The Open Source Gurdy Project is Live! A few years ago, I started working on building my own Hurdy Gurdy from scratch. As a highly experienced mechanical engineer with a background in designing equipment for the high-tech industry, I thought it would be interesting to use modern rapid prototyping technology like Laser Cutting and 3D printing to create an inexpensive instrument that still sounds great. After four years of working on it part-time, and four iterations later, I'm excited to announce that the result is finally here. I've named it the Nerdy Gurdy, and I'm ready to release it into the wild for everyone to enjoy. You can find more information about the project at http://www.nerdygurdy.nl. If you have any questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out. Based on your input, I'll be able to further improve the design and manual. FAQ: * The size of the drawings is 720 x 420 mm (3mm parts) and 610 x 420 (6 parts), but you can easily resize them using software like InkScape. * If you're looking for the latest version, I've released V6 on Thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3575109. Change Notes: 2017-12-26 First revision of the design was released on Thingiverse (v5.0) 2018-03-26 v5.1 was released * The changes included switching to 3 mm wood, adding a part to prevent rattling at the front bearing, and improving the assembly manual. * I also made some small modifications to make it more accurate and robust. 2019-04-28 V6 was released (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3575109)
