NER Abandoned Tunnel
sketchfab
The southern entrance of a disused tunnel lies along the abandoned Whitby branch of the North Eastern Railway, a route that operated briefly from 1883 to 1958. Spanning approximately 1.5 kilometers, this tunnel stretches from Sandsend to Kettleness on North Yorkshire's rugged coastline. Although much of the original track has been repurposed as a footpath, the tunnels themselves remain inaccessible due to safety concerns. A nearby tunnel's northern entrance has already given way to collapse, its iron supports erected in the 1950s proving insufficient against the forces of nature.
