Andreas Schluter's sculpture brings Neptune to life - the Roman equivalent of Poseidon, the powerful Greek god of both the ocean and freshwater realms. As the deity associated with horses, he is frequently shown racing or riding in a chariot, often accompanied by majestic sea creatures like those depicted here. The brothers Jupiter and Pluto drew inspiration from Neptune's greatness, which led to the naming of our Solar system's three planets.
