Nephroptosis Kidney Anatomy Model
sketchfab
Nephroptosis is a condition where the kidney plunges more than 5cm or two vertebral bodies downwards towards the pelvis when shifting from a supine to upright stance. Although the kidney returns to its normal position on standing, it slips back to its original site when the individual lies flat. In rare cases, nephroptosis can trigger severe abdominal and loin pain while standing up, which can only be relieved by lying down, intense episodes of renal colic accompanied by symptoms of blood in the urine, protein in the urine, reduced urine output, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, and chills. Secondary complications can also arise such as blocked kidneys, inflamed kidneys, and high blood pressure.
