Neopixel ring 2020 nerd goggles
thingiverse
These are simple Neopixel RGB LED ring goggles, a true nerd's delight. Two models come supplied: a plain one and a 2020 new year's eve mod. I used these rings: 'NeoPixel Ring - 16 x 5050 RGB LED' from Adafruit.com. They fit nicely, and with your favorite microcontroller (I chose an Arduino nano), you can drive the LEDs using any of the thousands of scripts available. Insert the cables through the supplied holes and feel free to make customizations as you see fit. I use a 5V Arduino nano and a pocket USB power bank. The goggles have a 70mm IPD, or interpupillary distance. Pins are simple and plain, allowing for easy customization; they're symmetrical, so you only need to print two of them. Plug the cables in securely with some tape or make holes to pass the cables through. I've included a sample Arduino nano code as a text file. This design uses just three pins on the Arduino nano: Pin2 (data) and 5v/GND. Print the goggles in PLA, PET, or low warp ABS; however, be aware that this material tends to warp a lot. Use M3 screws to secure the goggles' pins. You can wear these goggles if you want to look 'nerdy', if you need bright eyesight, if you want a flashlight-like effect on your eyes, or simply because you've made them yourself and they're awesome! I'll share pics and vids of my build once I finish customizing my Arduino nano script.
