I FINALLY DECIDED ON A CREATIVE PROJECT TO TACKLE USING ADAFRUIT'S 60 PIXEL RINGS, WHICH I BOUGHT EARLIER THIS YEAR. OVER THE WEEKEND, I DESIGNED IT FROM SCRATCH. MADE SPECIFICALLY TO FIT OVER GLASSES! ADDED AN ADDITIONAL HALF PIECE FOR SMALLER PRINT BEDS THAT STRUGGLE WITH LARGE PRINTS OR DON'T HANDLE BIGGER PROJECTS WELL. THIS BUILD IS SUPER SIMPLE AND CAN BE COMPLETED IN UNDER AN HOUR. ALMOST NO TOUCH-UPS ARE REQUIRED, OTHER THAN ATTACHING THE NEOPIXEL RINGS AND AN ARDUINO BOARD, WHICH IS GOOD TO GO RIGHT AWAY! SOME BASIC SOLDERING WORK IS INVOLVED, THOUGH. YOU CAN WATCH A STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL ON MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL (VIDEO LINK) FOR A CLEARER UNDERSTANDING. AN OPTIONAL FEATURE OF THIS PROJECT ALLOWS YOU TO ADJUST THE SPEED AND BRIGHTNESS OF THE VISOR IN REAL-TIME USING AN ENCODER ATTACHED TO THE ARDUINO BOARD. MY EXPERIMENTAL FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT WITH DEFAULT SPEED AND BRIGHTNESS SETTINGS, WE'RE TALKING AROUND 150 MA CURRENT DRAWN, SO YOU DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT BATTERY DRAINAGE MUCH. TO BUILD THIS PROJECT, YOU'LL NEED THE FOLLOWING ITEMS: * 2 SMALL RUBBER BANDS * 4 NEOPIXEL 1/4" 60 RINGS (ORDER FROM ADAFRUIT) * A WHITE PLASTIC VISOR MADE VIA 3D PRINTING * EITHER A PORTABLE BATTERY PACK OR A MINTYBOOST PACK FOR POWER SUPPLY * A MICRO-CONTROLLER BOARD, TEENSY 2.0 IN MY CASE * AN ADJUSTABLE EYEWEAR STRAP FOR COMFORT AND SECURE FIT (ORDER FROM AMAZON) * APPROXIMATELY 8 TO 10 SMALL ZIP-TIES FOR FIDDLING WITH CIRCUITS * A PERMA-PROTO QUARTER-SIZED BREADBOARD PCB FOR CONNECTING WIRING DIAGRAMS * OPTIONAL: ROTARY ENCODER WITH PUSH BUTTON AND MATCHING KNURDLES FOR ENCOUNTER ADDITION (ADAFRUIT PRODUCT) TOTAL COST FOR THE PROJECT IS PROXIMATELY $100 WHEN ORDERING EVERYTHING FRESH.
