Neolithic grave from Hjärup Sweden
sketchfab
The skeleton (a person?) lay on its back with the head pointing west, the left hand placed on the pelvic bone. The legs were slightly angled inward. Loose teeth appeared to the right of the skull. Soot stains were found on the skull, chest, and pelvis. Ceramics and flint were scattered throughout the lower part of the grave. A small collection of ceramics that could be pieced together was also found near the foot region, aside from this no other finds were made. The grave had been disturbed somewhat, which was evident as both gnaw marks on the skull and a displaced humerus were discovered. The sex of the individual was partially determined in the field. Flagstones surrounded the outer edges of the grave. It is possible that the person was wrapped in something or placed in a coffin because a darker border around their head region was observed. The bones were slightly more compactly arranged, angled inward toward each other, which may indicate some form of wrapping or swaddling had been done. Dating: Based on context, this dates to the Neolithic period.
