Terracotta figurines were widely crafted throughout the eastern Mediterranean region during the Neolithic period. These rounded forms clearly represent the concept of female fertility, although male figures and animals are also well-documented. The use of clay eventually declined in the Cyclades with the advent of the Early Bronze Age, when marble figures began to be created.
