Update v2: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/nema23-direct-drive-extruder-v2 This update directly draws inspiration from the extremely popular extruder by whosawhatis at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15718, so much so that MB is attempting to patent its design: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2014/0120196.html. While his original design is remarkable, I aimed to utilize larger motors available on hand in order to minimize heat production. This updated version also incorporates the widely used 608 skate bearing and hobbed pulley (you can find suitable 12mm OD ones or even make your own). The extruder comes equipped with longer springs than initially required, as they provide increased pinch force. It's essential to note that printing the 'Motor Attachment' in PLA is recommended due to its superior thread-holding capabilities compared to ABS. To ensure optimal performance, remember to adjust your motor current until it approaches slipping point during extrusion. Excessive power can lead to filament stripping, a common issue when using this robust motor.
