I discovered that my extruder stepper was overheating (despite adjusting the current) during prints lasting between 15-30 hours, resulting in print failures caused by the printed drive gear on the Pitan extruder softening and spinning out of control on the D shaft. After researching ScottW1's design, I found it to be an elegant solution that effectively maintains a low profile, allowing for clear gantry shoulder clearance. To enhance this setup, I wanted to incorporate a 4040 fan for improved ventilation. This design relies on the assumption that you will use a thermal pad between the heatsink and stepper motor. Without one, it may not function correctly due to insufficient clamping pressure on the heatsink. The specific heatsink intended for use with this design measures 40x40x11 in dimensions. Edit: I added an updated version of the design, featuring improved clamping pressure that securely holds the heatsink in place against the stepper motor.
