The mounting plate enables attaching a NEMA 17 stepper motor with an integrated planetary gearhead, such as the Phidgets model (http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?product_id=3317_1), onto a screw pattern designed for regular NEMA 17 steppers. I personally utilized it to install a planetary motor on my Seemecnc EZStruder.
