The design for NEMA 17 silicone dampers requires a precise mold. The current mold has a thickness of 1.6 mm and can be adjusted by applying z-scaling techniques in the slicer software. To create a more durable and long-lasting damper, I opted to use a handmade silicone composite instead of pure silicone. This composite is made by mixing ordinary sanitary silicone with a filler material such as starch, talc, or baby powder until it reaches a consistency similar to plasticine. The process begins by filling the mold completely with the homemade silicone mixture. Next, a flat plate is pressed down on top to ensure even distribution and prevent air bubbles from forming. Finally, any excess mixture is carefully cut off with a sharp knife. It's essential to allow the damper sufficient time to harden completely before use. A full 24 hours is required for the silicone composite to reach its maximum hardness and stability.
