This is an attachment for a flying extruder utilizing a NEMA 11 motor. The offset plate guard safeguards the actual extruder housing (when printed in regular PLA/ABS) from the enormous heat of the motor while it operates! [most notably during extended prints] It WILL and CAN cause your extruder body to soften/melt without some kind of shield. Covering the body with kapton tape can help, but isn't as impressive as a custom-built heat guard.
