The Nelson Mandela Statue stands proudly on the first exterior level of the Royal Festival Hall. His remarkable story is etched on the plinth, a testament to his unwavering dedication. Unveiled in 1985, the statue was once the focal point for fierce political activism. Years of vandalism ultimately led to the destruction of the original fibreglass sculpture, which was set ablaze in a desperate attempt to silence its message. Today's bronze replacement stands as a beacon of resilience, bearing the inscription: "The Struggle Is My Life" - Nelson Mandela. Imprisoned on August 5th, 1962, and sentenced to life for his courageous fight against apartheid, Mandela's spirit remained unbroken. Erected by the Greater London Council, the statue was unveiled by Oliver Tambo, President of the African National Congress, on October 28th, 1985. A testament to Nelson Mandela's unwavering resolve, additional text has been added: Nelson Mandela walked free after 27 years of imprisonment on February 11th, 1990. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on December 19th, 1993, and went on to become President of the Republic of South Africa and its Government of National Unity on May 10th, 1994. This iconic statue is part of "Scan The World," a groundbreaking initiative launched by MyMiniFactory.
