I have always relied on manual hammering center punches but I've longed for an automatic one that can be effortlessly pressed. Recently, I received the Neiko 5" automatic center punch as a gift - (https://amzn.to/2XOMVvQ) it features adjustable pressure and boasts robust steel construction (I have already utilized it on various metallic surfaces). My center punches are typically stored in my Makita drill case or toolcase drawers. In both cases, they require protective caps. I used to employ a cork screw with a pre-drilled hole, but these had to be frequently replaced due to wear and tear. They could also detach from the drill case on their own. Crafting one out of TPU was a simple matter of measuring and 3D printing. As an added benefit, it securely snaps into place and won't come loose. The design is available as GPL 2.0 open-source (meaning if any modifications are made, the source code must also be shared) on Fusion360 - (https://a360.co/2vuSiUI) and as a .step file.
