After successfully completing the DB KÖF-II shunting locomotive project, I decided to take on a new challenge: designing the Dutch alternative to this German shunter. This is the series 200-300 of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, affectionately known as "SIK". In the chassis, a 6V geared motor is mounted (10 x 12 x ~35 mm, drive shaft: 3 mm). The cover for this motor is secured using M3 tapered screws. Four millimeter axles run on MR84ZZ bearings (inside 4.0 mm, outside 8.0 mm, 3.0 mm high). The wheels are driven by gears that rotate on the same type of bearings, which are fixed to the frame with M4 screws. To enhance realism, an engine sound can be played using a 40 mm speaker fitted to the frame. Underneath the engine cover and within the cabin, there is ample space to install an RC receiver, sound module, battery, ESC module, and more. The chimney is constructed by gluing a piece of 8 mm pipe into the engine cover (height over engine cover: 13 mm). The roof is simply a lid or cover on top of the cabin. Foot- and hand-levers are glued to the frame using 1.75 filament, while a piece of metal wire serves as a handle in the top of the hand-lever. To recreate this model in its iconic old green, black, and red livery, you'll need to glue on the provided number- and factory sign to the cabin. For more recent yellow and grey locomotives, simply paint on the numbers. The front- and rear holders for the "end of train" signs may be too fragile to withstand regular use. I've never printed or fitted them myself. The body is secured to the frame with M3 screws, while buffers are glued to the frame, aligned by 4 mm rod/thread. Mounted brake tubes and couplings are standard items from Marklin or Hubner. In the buffer beam, 1.5 mm holes are provided for creating shunting hand-grabs using metal wire. To create handrails, I used available fixtures (M2 thread) and brass wire.
