ND MX5 Miata front Brake Duct/Scoop
thingiverse
This is a DIY a brake duct for the ND Miata. I've had a look at the 911 style ones that attach to the lower control arm, but the big problem I have with them is the shape of the ND's lower control arm is very different to the 911's. With the ND's almost perpendicular to the direction of travel. This means that attaching a 911 duct effectively creates a bit of a air dam. What it needs is a bit of structure behind it to shape it. So it starts off parallel to the direction of travel then contours towards the brakes. I drew this up in CAD and I think it should work well. It feels pretty sturdy and isn't going anywhere. I was a bit limited by the 220x220x250 build volume of my 3D printer but I think it should do what's needed. I trimmed the stock front wheel spats to allow more airflow to the duct. It weighs 113 grams and feels sturdy. Attached using 3M double side tape between lower control arm and duct/scoop, then secured with thick zip ties. It feels solid and shouldn't move but care should be taken driving over debris as it could strike the duct. WARNING - As usual, take care when driving, and these ducts aren't going to eliminate brake fade altogether! And be sure to secure these correctly as shown, you don't want these falling off and creating a hazard for other motorist.
