Naxos' Temple of Apollo – Portara, a colossal marble gate and the sole surviving remnant of an unfinished temple of Apollo dating back to 530 BC, proudly serves as the island's iconic symbol and primary landmark. Strategically situated on the islet of Palatia, at the entrance to Naxos harbor, this magnificent structure comprises four massive marble parts weighing approximately 20 tons each. Utilizing a cutting-edge technique involving 462 drone photos, researchers have carefully documented the intricate details of this ancient wonder.
