Navajo Design part 2.8 life
thingiverse
I said before that there are certain designs I don't have names for unless they resemble something else. But this one I was told by my instructor has three purposes. They are: the sun, the moon, and life. There's no reason why it symbolizes these three options, but it does. The design for the sun varies on how Dine people see and tell the story. Some artists use this symbol to present its meaning, while others do not. Ancestors presented it differently in the past. This design doesn't have a face, although I've seen some art with faces. In history, we have pottery and our medicine men who do sand paintings that feature the circle and asterisk lines to represent these three things. They may say certain phrases or present this symbol in their work, but I'm not sure what they are yet. The only option I know is life, which has to reach out to ancestors around them or her. This design is used for teens who are becoming adults.
