Nautilus Gears
thingiverse
Nautilus-inspired gears are based on logarithmic spirals, developed by researchers Ágnes Dabi, Zsigmond Istvan Varju, Dr. Laczik Balint et al. at Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudomanyi Egyetem. Their Maple script is available online, and a rendered animation can be viewed on YouTube. Purchase the gears at Shapeways or use the provided DXF for modification with CAD software. An updated design includes press fit connectors to prevent pin breakage; glue may be used if needed. To assemble, place two gears onto a connector bar and snap in a second bar for a functional result. Original connector bars are kept for reference.
