Nautilus gears based on logarithmic spirals utilize unique gear profiles generated using this Maple script, which was originally created by a developer whose full credit is given at http://www.maplesoft.com/applications/view.aspx?SID=95483&view=html&L=G. The rendered animation of the gears can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtkEyZwuwH4. Although the SolidWorks file used for design is a complex mix of various experiments, it has been uploaded as a DXF file that can easily be modified using most CAD software applications. An update has been made to eliminate breaking pins. A simple press-fit design has replaced the original pin system. To assemble the gears, print two Connector Bar v2 or Curved Connector Bar v2 designs and snap them together; on well-calibrated printers, they should fit smoothly into place with a tight grip due to friction. If necessary, adding a drop of glue can secure the connection further. However, be warned that these bars are designed for single use only and may be difficult to separate without breaking the pin. For reference, the original pins remain in place.
