Nautilus Gear Remix

thingiverse

This is a remix of the Nautilus Gears by David_L_G that I created to make easier printing with PETG.\r\n\r\nThe original design has a very thin perimeter profile that the teeth connect to, which was causing issues with my printer as each individual tooth prints first before printing the outside edge of the gear and the PETG just wouldn't lay down with the tiny triangles. I increased the perimeter thickness so that the inner and outer lines print first and then the center fills in afterward. I also remixed the tie bars to be open and thinner, allowing more visibility to the gears and bearings.\r\n\r\nI also corrected the center of the gears to be 22mm as this is the size of my 608 bearings. The original design has three different options and even the tightest was too big for the bearings.\r\n\r\nPrinting in PETG makes the gears feel less harsh to the fingers than PLA or ABS, and they are nearly silent when they spin. I removed the chamber lines to keep the weight of the gear on the outer edge, which I found helps the gears spin much faster. Printing with 1.2 layer height and shell size and 20-25 infill gives it more weight so the gears will spin better.
