MishaT's famous Nautilus Gears have been re-imagined for laser cutting, replacing printing, and now feature a simple motorized display stand. To create basic gears, cut the left hand gear from page #1; page #2 provides a layout for the display stand using bamboo barbecue skewers as axles. For a motorized display, use page #3 which includes designs for a stand suitable for geared motors. The 200:1 reduction was used in this design but the 120:1 might be quieter. Adding a PIR sensor for triggering would also be a nice touch. To fit the motor shaft, use one of the right-hand nautilus gears with care as they are quite fragile. The stand features laser-cut mortice and tenon joinery, drawn to cut from 3mm MDF, and includes two front panels: a false front to cover screw heads and wood joints, and another for mounting motors. A small 2AA battery box fits inside, accessed through an oval hole in the back panel. Finally, wrap the living hinge outer wrapper around the inner stand while the glue sets, using MSRaynsford's ring box hinge pattern slightly stretched onto the taper.
