Naufragio "Caldera", Banco Chinchorro

Remnants of a steel-hulled cargo ship propelled by a steam-powered system via a Scottish-style boiler and triple-expansion engine are scattered in the area. The ship ran aground between 1961 and 1963, according to information provided by several local fishermen within the protected natural area, near the northwest bank of Banco Chinchorro and west of Cayo Norte, inside the coral reef lagoon, where an average depth of 9.84 feet is found.
