Nasa Sand drum
grabcad
The model comprises two primary components: Drum and Shaft. The Drum is situated at the center of the Shaft, supported by a bearing. As the Shaft rotates in a clockwise direction, the Shovel within the Drum collects sand. After several degrees of rotation, the Inlet Gate opens due to gravity, allowing the collected sand to fall into the Drum. The Drum's filling capacity can reach 95%, accommodating approximately 17.6 liters. Counter-clockwise Shaft rotation enables Link 1 to rotate a few degrees, pulling Link 2 in turn, which then pulls the Outlet Gates installed on the side of the Drum, releasing the collected volume out of the Drum. If all components are made of Aluminum, the total weight will be approximately 5.3 kilograms (Drum, Shafts, Links, and Gates). However, if Carbon Fiber is used for some of these parts, the overall weight can be significantly reduced.
