The NASA SPADE, designed for Lunar Sampling Design Challenge, measures 51cm in length and weighs 361g. Operated easily with two hands by one person, it lifts up to 100cm^3 of lunar regolith. Stress analysis indicates it can handle 400g without deformation. Constructed from 6063 T6 aluminium for the scoop and polypropylene for the crank handle and grip, its operation involves: filling the filtering chamber with regolith, rotating the crank to push dust through a sieve, storing rocks in a cylinder, and sealing the storage cylinder.
