NASA Rassor Drum MK3

NASA's Rassor Drum MK3 is a lightweight excavating device designed for collecting and transferring regolith with ease. This compact model boasts an innovative cylindrical tray with a locking mechanism inspired by a bike freewheel, ensuring the regolith stays securely inside while collecting. The tray locks in reverse to prevent any spills or escapes during collection. The outer cylinders are precision-engineered with a thickness of 88.9 mm, not including the protective outer rim, providing exceptional strength and durability. Meanwhile, the middle section is a robust 63.5 mm thick for added stability. I deliberately chose the cylindrical shape to enable the drum to withstand pressure with confidence. Constructing the Rassor Drum involves assembling 41 precision parts into four seamless assemblies. Starting with the right cylinder, you connect it to the outer rim first. Once that's in place, add the internal assemblies, beginning with the press-fit 6061 aluminum ring. Join the inner blocker with the assembly by securing it through the four bolt holes. Next, assemble the center section, culminating with the left cylinder and rim. Finally, link the other side of the locking system to the press-fit aluminum ring for a secure closure. Specifications: * Fill ratio exceeds 63% * Total width of scoops: 152mm * Drum mass: 4.98 kg * Drum diameter: 380mm * Drum length: 251mm * Maximum capacity: over 42.3 liters
