NASA RASSOR Drum
grabcad
This design was crafted to minimize material loss as the drum rotates in the loading direction, maximizing efficiency at every turn. The vanes inside the drum are strategically angled so that materials stay firmly in place during the cutters' downward rotation, eliminating the risk of valuable materials falling back out. To unload the drum, it's simply a matter of reversing its direction of rotation. The drum itself is crafted from a high-strength carbon fiber composite and durable aluminum. The aluminum components include the middle plates, end plates, drive shaft, and end caps – all carefully engineered to withstand the rigors of heavy use. Meanwhile, every other part of the design is constructed from lightweight yet incredibly strong carbon fiber. These composite components are expertly bonded to the aluminum plates, while the two end caps thread securely into the drive shaft. One of these end caps mounts directly onto the motor assembly on the RASSOR, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
