NASA RASSOR Bucket Drum Design Solution
grabcad
The proposed design embodies the ultimate outcome from given requirements, practical constraints and in-depth studies of discrete particle simulation models. It is engineered to deliver unparalleled robustness, minimized assembly demands and effortless manufacturability. The design incorporates several additional features such as a regolith scraper and vibration motor cases; these enhancements significantly augment the excavation capabilities. The bucket drum design emerges as the most preferred excavation method. This approach yields a final design comprising three distinct segments, each containing a pair of helical scoops spaced 120 degrees apart. Each bucket drum is designed to collect and store 22.526 liters of regolith when filled to 76% capacity. Leveraging advanced machining techniques (CNC), the entire main segment of the drum body can be manufactured with ease, thereby keeping the mass of the bucket drum at a mere 4.92 kg.
