In my second submission for NASA's Lunar Sampling System, I designed a Regolith and Sample Caching (RSC) weighing 492 grams. It has dimensions of 26cm x 20cm x 6.5cm. The RSC features include a front rake with 2cm spacing to prevent rocks larger than 2cm, a 360-degree overhead camera for monitoring regolith and sample collection, a motorized control system for rotating the scoop, and a spiraling convoluted cylindrical scoop. The scoop's cupped blades are designed to push collected material towards its end during rotation. Intermittently perforated blades pick up rocks while unperforated ones carry sand and dust. Finally, collected materials are channeled into the collection cylinder.
