NASA Lunar Sampling Tool

NASA Lunar Sampling Tool

grabcad

This design focuses on controlling regolith collection processes efficiently while maintaining low mass without containers. The main housing is made of Teflon, with other parts crafted from aluminum. An Archimedes screw facilitates sample intake into the "Adaptive filtration system" for visual analysis and sorting. Samples are then stored in "smart regolith cylinders," which have embedded LEDs and optical sensors for level feedback. This design requires minimal fasteners and houses the power system between the top plate and main housing. It is intended to be attached near the bottom of a NASA Lander, allowing the lander to simply land, after which the tool takes over sampling, sorting, and collection of specific lunar materials, discarding unwanted regolith. The design was created and rendered in PTC Creo 4.0. Your consideration of this design is appreciated!
