NASA Foam

The antenna modules are connected using foam. The vertical plates of the antenna module have rectangular windows with a relatively large cross-section. On the side of the opposite module, the windows turn into channels, which intersect when the modules are joined (about 5mm). A can of foam is installed in each allowable volume of the module. Its nozzle is pushed in so that when docked it fits into the hole of the opposite module. This one has a button with a through hole. When docking modules, the button presses the head of the foam canister. From each canister foam is injected into the volume of the opposite module. To limit the volume of foam, each module has thin-walled boxes. Foam tends to fill the entire available volume. After some time, the foam becomes hard and firmly connects the two modules. The cross-section of the window channels should ensure sufficient strength of the connection with the hardened foam.
