History The Crawler-Transporter is a tracked vehicle designed to transport the Saturn V rocket, and now the Space Shuttle, from NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building to the launchpad on a Mobile Launcher Platform. Built by the Marion Power Shovel Co. at a cost of $14 million, the Crawler-Transporter was once the largest tracked vehicle in the world, but it has since been surpassed by the Bagger 288 German excavator. It features eight tracks, two on each corner; each track is equipped with 57 shoes, and each shoe weighs approximately 900 kg (about one short ton). The transporter measures 131 ft by 114 ft (40 m by 35 m), and its height from ground level to the platform is adjustable from 20 to 26 ft (6 to 8 m). The vehicle weighs a massive 6 million pounds (2,700 t). Price: $139.00 Date added: Aug 06, 2015 Last update: Oct 21, 2015 Product id: 55c3592eccff75b0688b45f3
