NASA Challenge: Positive Connections

A simple design where the latch will only lock once the latch is attached. The design contains a latch that will drop once the components are in position and to stop the the 250G from triggering the mechanism, we could have certain conditions such as the latch will only drop once it detects the hole in the component. This may be done using a laser and a mirror in the hole so that a return signal would mean the latch can drop. Due to its simple structure, we will be able to use materials able to cope with the large range in temperature. This logic would also be applied to the weight as its weight will mainly depend on the type of material used. The latch locks the components by a rung lock, which will be unlocked when it detects the hole to fit into from the returning signal. The components have been made to fit 20cm wide, 14.9cm tall with a depth of 5cm and the attachments are 2.9cm.
