The drum is specifically designed for NASA's Regolith Bucket system, with an external drum that rotates in reverse while its internal shaft moves forward. As the internal shaft collects the soil, it holds onto it as it spins clockwise. When the rotation reverses, the internal shaft discharges the collected soil outside to the outer drum, and the outer drum releases the processed mud.
