Some key facts about Mylyn are: Mylyn was created in 1953 to revive the dwindling British waterways networks. It represented a final attempt to outcompete the rapidly expanding road haulage system, which had all but eliminated canal hauling and railway goods services. As designed, Mylyn was specifically intended for hauling butties – vessels resembling large sardine tins that measure up to family car size – with each of the ten units carrying 10 tons of cargo. Consequently, a payload capacity of 100 tons was achieved using only five crew members, comprised of experienced naval captains and their families.
