Narrow-Lot House
thingiverse
A talented buddy of mine, who hails from an architectural background, is on a quest for property in an off-the-beaten-path area. I'm strongly encouraging him to seize a dirt-cheap lot and design a custom-made house out of concrete. Over the weekend, I whipped up this concept design using SketchUp to get my creative juices flowing. Since it's going to be nestled between buildings, we're not too worried about windows on the sides - what will make up for that are wall-to-wall windows running along the top floor from front to back (or bullet-proof ones if possible), plenty of skylights, and a sizable atrium with either a fair-weather retractable roof or a permanent glass enclosure. The atrium comes complete with a showpiece sculpture and fountain plus a staircase that leads up to the rooftop for some well-deserved recreation and maintenance time. By cleverly hollowing out part of the staircase on the outside, we can fit in storage spaces perfect for storing those pesky gardening gadgets that keep weeds at bay. And as for indoor decor, we're envisioning a dual-level fireplace in the front section and spiral staircases tucked inside both front and back sections.
