Narcisse, Rodin, Portland Art Museum

As a member of Portland's thriving makers community, I'm proud to be part of Layer Geeks, our meetup group on meetup.com called the "Portland 3D printing lab". We're passionate about 3D printing and love to challenge each other to create innovative projects like our life-size cow print, affectionately known as #crowdcow. One of my most rewarding experiences was working with the Portland Art Museum to 3D scan the Cantor Foundation's Rodin statues. I used Occipital's Structure scanner on my iPad, carefully guiding it to capture every detail in real-time. As I scanned, I could see the object being transformed into a 3D printable model right before my eyes. To refine the scans, I turned to Autodesk's Meshmixer application, where I was able to size and clean up the files with ease. The Portland Art Museum provided invaluable support throughout this project, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be sharing these scans with my fellow makers. I encourage you to explore these incredible scans for yourself and join the maker movement. With a little creativity, you can bring these iconic Rodin statues to life in 3D. Don't miss the "Auguste Rodin: The Human Experience" exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, which runs through April 2017. Now it's your turn to get creative! Take the scans and use them to make something amazing – whether for yourself or as a gift for a friend. Together, let's celebrate the power of making and bring these iconic works to life in new and exciting ways.
