Narcisse by Gabriel Grupello (1644 - 1730), a magnificent marble sculpture. On display at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium. Captured with CapturingReality. Gabriel Grupello was born into a family of Italian heritage, his father Bernardo Rupelli a Spanish cavalry captain and his mother Cornelia Delinck a Flemish woman. In 1671 he returned to Flanders and two years later became master of the Brussels Guild. He established a thriving workshop in Brussels that employed many skilled assistants. Grupello was a highly versatile artist, creating sculptures on a wide range of subjects and working with various materials including marble, ivory and wood. What sets him apart from his contemporaries is his unique ability to craft bronze statues. Follow me on Twitter @GeoffreyMarchal for the latest updates.
