Narcisse at the Palais des Beaux- Arts in Lille, France
myminifactory
The sculptor Ernest Eugene Hiolle (1834-1886) crafts a young man reclining elegantly on a rock. His head bowed in languid repose, he gazes intently at his reflection as his hand caresses his image. At the base of the rock, reeds appear to sprout from the water's surface. The artist translates the Narcissus conundrum into an alluring pose: the anguish of the soul and the abandonment of the body. The teenager's torso curves and twists - evoking sensuality, possibly self-directed. The hair of Narcissus, supple and wavy, is adorned with flowers, daffodils, reminiscent of the fate the gods have ordained for young Adonis. This object is part of "Scan The World".
